Looking for the perfect coastal holiday homes for your holiday this year? Here is our selection of some stunning properties that you can stay in this summer, from gorgeous eco lodges to a spot on the Alice in Wonderland former reservoir!

Two to try for luxury in Devon

South west self-catering specialist Luxury Coastal has unveiled two super luxe coastal holiday homes in Devon which are open to holiday bookings for the first time in 2024.

Willingcott in north Devon comprises five eco lodges near Woolacombe beach, part of the area’s newly-designated, world class surfing reserve; while Woolbrook Reservoir – formerly a fully functioning water reservoir – is an architecturally whacky, large house near Sidmouth, with a sunken keyhole design.

Willingcott is within easy reach of the world-class surfing beach at Woolacombe, and the Tarka Trail (for cycling, walking, jogging) runs past the door. Sandwiched between coast and countryside, it is an ideal base for families and adventurers.

Spend lazy (and active) days by Woolacombe’s blue flag sea shore, try your hand at surfing or simply enjoy rock pooling on the shore. Family-friendly facilities onsite include a clubhouse, outdoor heated pool (May to September), and children’s play areas.

Each luxury lodge sleeps eight people in four bedrooms, and is attractively clad in larch, with solar panels and a smart home system. Designed to maximise the wonderful views, there are open plan living/dining areas, decked terraces with a hot tub and gas barbecue.

Alice in Wonderland former reservoir – Woolbrook Reservoir near Sidmouth is a former reservoir bought from south west water in 2008 and converted into an architecturally intriguing, two-storey luxury home.

The six-bedroom property sleeps 16 and has a distinctive, semi-circular floor plan: the roof has been turfed to conceal it in the hillside, with a central, keyhole cut-out creating a dramatic living space below ground level that is arranged around a courtyard.

The design creates utter privacy, with multi-level outdoor spaces to relax in, including a light-filled atrium, a home gym, games room, hot tub, outdoors bar and over an acre of gardens. Outside is a covered barbecue area, table tennis and a pool table, with a large, outdoor lounge suite to chill out on.

Inside the house, floor-to-ceiling windows encase the vaulted living spaces overlooking the courtyard. There are five bedrooms set on the galleried first floor, with the master suite opening on to a decked terrace, and a sixth bedroom on the ground floor. Though secluded, it is less than a mile and a half from the Regency town of Sidmouth and located for exploring east Devon’s Jurassic coastline, with iconic red cliffs. luxurycoastal.co.uk

Cheers to a special stay

Tinwood Estate, the luxury accommodation venue next door to the world-renowned Goodwood Estate, has announced it is building five more luxury lodges to bring the total offering to eight.

The existing three lodges have proved immensely popular, and are always fully booked across the peak summer months. The new lodges will have the same design and layout as the existing ones.

Perfect for couples looking for a romantic retreat close to the Sussex coast, the lodges overlook Tinwood’s beautiful vines. Spotting deer and other wildlife is a common occurrence, and what could beat sipping on a glass of sparkling Sussex wine whilst you sit on your private deck?

Tinwood’s new restaurant concept, which opened in 2023, offers high-quality, deliciously seasonal dishes and the promise of a delightful summer’s day out. Serving lunch every day and dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, there will be 50 covers in the Vineyard Kitchen and picnic baskets supplied for those days when outdoor dining is a must. tinwoodestate.com

The property sleeps up to 12 guests in five bedrooms and is set beside the centrepiece, a stunning natural water swimming pool with boardwalks, a floating platform and lush.

There’s also a hot tub, a tennis court, a trampoline, swings and  one-and-a-half acres of grounds to enjoy and plenty of log burners for cosy nights in. Modern interiors feature a sweeping staircase, a triple-height atrium and bi-fold doors that bring the outside in. thewowhousecompany.co.uk
