I moved to Devon when I was a little girl with my family – since I can remember, I have always lived by the sea. I grew up in Instow on the north coast, then moved to Croyde. North Devon is such a beautiful place. The coastline is rugged, open and wild, and it feels very free. A place can be special, but it’s also so much about the people, and it’s a tight-knit community here.
Before setting up my jewellery business I’d grafted in a creative agency, run a yoga retreat, worked with the artist Damien Hirst and managed a restaurant. Summers were fun but hectic, and I often escaped the harsh winters for far-flung destinations. I’ve travelled all over the world, and this was my inspiration for making understated, minimal gemstone necklaces for my friends and family back at home.
The Wanderlust Life brand has now grown into a shop and studio in Braunton, North Devon, run by a team of 16 women. Coastal living is integral to our brand – it’s a feeling and an aesthetic. We are all coastal people, who were either born here or who chose to live close to the ocean. Our latest jewellery collection,
All at Sea, features hand-cast shells we gathered from beaches far and wide.
Summer is my favourite season, and I’m always up for an impromptu adventure. It’s fun finding new places right on the doorstep and I love keeping life playful. On summer evenings I take a daily sea dip with my friend Shannon and it’s the best tonic – literally washing the day away. This summer we have got a small boat, Brenda Mary, to go out in too, whatever the swell. The Wanderlust Life shop and studio is just minutes away from the surf beaches of Saunton and Croyde and often the team will SUP after work, or decide to have a last-minute barbecue on the beach.
It’s definitely a quieter way of life being out of the city, but it’s full of brilliant perks – the best of which is living two minutes from the sea.
