Alex Fisher stays at the Titanic Hotel, Liverpool
WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
The transformation of this former tobacco warehouse in Liverpool is breath-taking. The extraordinary, red-brick Grade II-listed building, built in 1855, was the first stage of the ongoing £36m redevelopment of Stanley Dock. Opened in 1848, the dock was once bustling with imported coal, sugar, tobacco and textiles, but had lain derelict since 1980. Rich with the history of this vibrant city, the hotel is like no other I’ve visited.
ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
The basement houses the Maya Blue Wellness Spa, with Roman-bath style hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room. Every room has a superior deluxe double bed and a slick, modern bath and shower.
WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
There are 153 rooms, and they are huge! The corridors are vast – fit for giants – with towering ceilings that befit the dimensions of the property.
BEST SEA VIEW?
Many of the rooms overlook the start of the Leeds Liverpool Canal, which stretches for 127 miles. Alternatively, ask for a room that overlooks the Mersey Estuary.
HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
There’s a great Rum Bar and an elegant restaurant, Stanley’s Bar & Grill, serving a wide range of dishes, from crispy cod cheek to Thai curried seabass.
HOW DO I GET THERE?
WHAT WILL IT COST?
Prices start at £105 for a Classic Room.
