For a fresh approach to seasonal decorating, why not try a contemporary Nordic scheme? This inviting look is ideal for coastal homes, combining natural wooden tones, simple patterns and tactile textures with a pared back colour palette of crisp white, berry red and aqua blue. Craftsmanship is key, so keep a look out for beautifully made accessories, quirky fabric designs and eco friendly decorations that will add a festive dash all around your home this Christmas. Here are our top tips for a plastic-free Christmas…

1. This wooden tree is not only good a good choice for the environment but creates a striking focal point too, especially when set against this lovely dove print fabric. Dress your tree with simple red and white decorations, including pompom garlands and origami stars, plus plenty of ceramic pinecones, snowflakes, feathers and bells. Place sheepskin rugs beneath the tree to create a lovely spot for unwrapping gifts.

2.
Turn your living room into a festive retreat full of cosy touches and stylish seasonal finds. Miniature wooden and paper trees are ideal for displaying on shelves and can be used year after year. Candlelight will bring a magical glow to your space, so dot tea lights and candelabra all around. Update your soft furnishings with oversize knits, woven designs and pleasing prints.

3. Get creative with your gift-wrappings and trimmings, starting with a mix of paper designs, from seasonal patterns in red and white to timeless kraft paper. Choose coordinating ribbons, twine, tags and stamps then add in a few quirky decorations – tissue paper snowflakes, wooden beads and ceramic designs will all provide a seasonal flourish.

4. This dining room sets a festive tone with a boldly patterned fabric panel in cheerful red, which stands out brilliantly against the white walls. Pale wooden furniture continues the Nordic theme, warmed up with sheepskin throws and knitted cushions. Modern accessories in the same palette of tones combine to create the perfect spot for Christmas gatherings.

5.
Set a stylish table setting using contemporary textured dinnerware, unusual candleholders and printed linens. A potted eucalyptus provides a verdant centrepiece while bright red berries and origami decorations introduce a dash of yuletide cheer.

6. Set aside a spot in your home for all your Christmas preparations, from card writing and invitations to gift-wrapping. A modern pegboard provides a versatile storage option for supplies and can be used for displaying seasonal decorations too. Soft baskets are a great addition for keeping presents organised.

7.
Choose well-crafted decorations in a mix of materials. We’ve teamed geometric wire shapes with delicate ceramic designs, folded origami pieces and beautifully turned wooden drops. Showcase your favourites on a simple wall hanger made from dowels and twine.

8.
Bring a little Christmas cheer into your hallway to give your guests a warm welcome. A stylish bench offers a handy perch while a wooden ladder provides the perfect spot for storing cosy throws to keep the winter chill off. String up a few garlands for a decorative touch like these wooden discs and festive pompoms.
