Experts at dog holiday company Pack Holidays have picked these as great destinations for dog-walking breaks and dog-friendly hiking.

1.     Holkham Bay, Norfolk

The picturesque Holkham Bay offers miles and miles of sand dunes to explore, a beautifully unspoilt sandy beach and gentle waves to paddle in. Follow the 4.8-mile walking route through ancient pine woods and marshes towards the sandy beach.

2.     Luskentyre, Isle of Harris, Scotland

Located in the Outer Hebrides, you and your dog will think you’ve taken a wrong turn and discovered a tropical island. Follow the 2.75 miles walk across the sands and then over the shoreline towards the village.

3.     Seaham, County Durham

Choose between two walks, either through the town so you and your faithful hound can splash along the shore and rock pools and walk along the sea wall, or through the harbour where you can share a sausage and chips with your pup while you sit on the beach and enjoy the views.

4. Kingsgate Bay, Kent

A wonderfully quiet spot, you could happily leave your dog off lead at Kingsgate Bay. Follow the structured path or just explore the rock pools and caves along the stunning coved bay surrounded by white chalk cliffs.

5. Formby, Lancashire

The only coastal walk on the Sefton Coast that has no restrictions on dog access, you’ll find access to self-filling water bowls and you can even ask for dog poo bags if needed.
