WHY HERE?

Set on the Camel Estuary, opposite Padstow on the north coast of Cornwall, Rock combines easy access to the sea with wide beaches and a calmer atmosphere than some of the county’s busier towns.

You can leave the car parked for most of your stay, walk to the beach, get the ferry across to Padstow, book a boat trip or spend the afternoon paddleboarding on the estuary.
The pace is relaxed without feeling sleepy, particularly during summer when the waterfront is busy with families, many of whom return year after year. There’s a great local shop in the village, providing everything you need for a self-catering stay, and no trip to a supermarket is necessary!

Rock also works well as a base for exploring North Cornwall. Polzeath, Daymer Bay and Port Isaac are all within easy reach, while the South West Coast Path runs directly through this stretch of coastline.

WHERE TO STAY?

Littlesticks is a contemporary three-bedroom holiday home designed for easy coastal living. Sleeping six guests, it suits families seeking a stylish base close to the sea. Tucked away in the hamlet of Penmayne, it’s quiet even during the busiest summer months, but still just a few minutes’ walk to the great little shops in Rock.

The interiors have a modern Scandi feel, with lots of natural wood and furnishings. The layout is carefully thought through, with an open-plan kitchen, dining and living room, which is bathed in daylight. There’s
a little snug downstairs for the kids to watch films and hang out, while the grown-ups enjoy a meal in the main living space or garden.

Outside, there’s a private garden with a seating area, a luxurious hot tub and space for dining.

HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?

The produce and restaurants in this area are outstanding. In Rock itself, The Mariners pub is perfect for relaxed lunches and dinners overlooking the estuary. Serving local produce and traditional dishes, it’s an ideal place for a family meal. Four Boys is a popular waterfront restaurant which offers fantastic seafood and homemade pasta.

A regular ferry takes you on a short journey across the water to Padstow, which continues to draw visitors both for Rick Stein’s restaurants and famous fish and chips on the quay, along with Paul Ainsworth’s high-end No6. For a delicious lighter lunch, head to the Sabzi deli and pick up a takeaway for the beach or home.

The ferry crossing over the estuary only takes a few minutes and runs regularly throughout the day.

BEST BEACHES?

Rock Beach offers vast stretches of stunning golden sand. The estuary waters are calmer than Cornwall’s Atlantic-facing beaches, so it’s ideal for swimming, paddleboarding and sailing.

Daymer Bay, a short walk or drive away, is backed by dunes and has a quieter feel, with lovely views across the estuary.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Prices at Littlesticks vary depending on the season, with lower rates during quieter months and premium pricing during school holidays. During the shoulder months, you can book seven nights for around £1,200. During peak summer holidays, this can rise to £3,800.
