The stylist, TV presenter and author on her love of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast – and how its sea and shoreline have shaped how she approaches her work

I love the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. It’s wild, rugged, and ever-changing – dramatic cliffs, rolling green hills, and panoramic sea views that go on forever. I love how the landscape constantly shifts, whether it’s a landslide revealing hidden fossils or the tides reshaping the shoreline. Just like fashion, it’s never static.

Dorset has been my escape for years, a place where I can switch off from the noise of life. My father-in-law lives an hour inland, but I would always find a way to get to the sea. As soon as I arrive, I feel a weight lift. Parenting, work, stress – it all feels more manageable with the sea air in my lungs.

When my kids were younger, the beach was my sanity-saver. There’s something about the combination of salty air and wide-open space that makes life simpler. Fossil hunting, building sandcastles, or just watching the waves roll in – instant entertainment and instant calm.

Now that they’re older, it’s more about paddleboarding and coasteering, but the effect is the same: pure joy and a reminder that the best things in life aren’t complicated.

Right now, I’m passionate about helping women embrace confidence and style at any age. My new book, Bolder Not Older, is all about breaking free from fashion rules, rediscovering personal style, and feeling amazing in what you wear. Just like the sea, style is about movement and change – it’s never too late to shake things up.

Bolder Not Older: Dull to Dazzling in 12 Weeks by Nicky Hambleton-Jones (£25, Synergy) is out now.
