How two best friends turned their love of sea swimming into a sustainable business by the coast.

There’s nothing quite like living by the sea – it’s my happy place that brings calm and clarity. On hectic days, I grab a coffee, head to the beach with my dog, and let the sound of the waves work its magic. Living here in Hove has changed my lifestyle – it’s peaceful, natural and a constant reminder to slow down and reconnect with the world around me. I meet friends by the sea instead of in the pub, and am in the sea most weeks, swimming or sometimes trying (and failing!) to surf.

The idea for Salty Earth was born on a walk along the seafront with Harriet March, my best friend since childhood. We were born four days apart. We’re both mad about the ocean and passionate vegans who care deeply about the planet. Harriet mentioned that she wanted a dry robe for sea swimming, and we thought, ‘Why not create something even better?’ Something stylish, practical but also eco-friendly that reflects our love for the coast and everything it gives us.

We sketched designs in a beachside café, sourced recycled materials and built a brand we’re so proud of. Our robes are perfect for sea swimmers, dog walkers, or anyone who loves being outdoors. Each product represents our commitment to protecting the planet – we make them from recycled materials and we plant a tree for every sale. When we sold our first robe, we went for a sea swim together and drank champagne on the freezing-cold beach – in October!

The coast is a constant source of inspiration and peace for us, it’s where Salty Earth began, and it’s what drives us to keep going every day.
