We travelled to East Sussex to see Hastings B&B The Langdons. Review by Jessica Johnson

WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
The irons of creative revival glow red in Hastings Old Town. Here, Jon and Sara Young – new proprietors at boutique B&B The Laindons – have struck gold, breathing Scandinavian-inspired style into a Grade II-listed Georgian terrace tucked away on the High Street.

ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
Beds are crafted from recycled timber, each made up with crisp Egyptian cotton. In every one of the five bedrooms, there’s a welcome tray of ground coffee and fresh milk, cheerfully topped off with a Tunnock’s Teacake. Seascape toiletries are in plentiful supply and the honesty basket on the top floor is filled with fancy drinks and snacks.

WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
Drawing inspiration from the couple’s former family home in Stockholm, rooms offer a lesson in pared-down elegance; Ercol chairs, oaky antiques and a meditative palette of whites, greys and seaside blues make for a peaceful night’s sleep.

BEST SEA VIEW?
Room One offers panoramic views of the Old Town below, taking in the grassy slope of East Hill; stand on tiptoes and you get a seagull’s view to sea.

HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
From the light and airy conservatory, breakfast is a local affair. Jon roasts his own coffee beans and the bircher muesli comes with a dollop of Sara’s signature rhubarb compote. Perfectly poached eggs on toast join a list of house specials, including full English breakfasts and berry- topped pancakes, all cooked using locally sourced ingredients.

WHAT WILL IT COST?
Prices start from £120 per night based on two people sharing and including breakfast. Single occupancy rates are available. To book, visit thelaindons.com

The Laindons, 23 High Street, Hastings TN34 3EY.
