Coast contributor Deborah Dooley stays at The Beach at Bude

WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
This boutique hotel is a sleek addition to a terrace of Georgian houses that overlook the rolling sands of Summerleaze Beach. A few minutes’ walk from the centre of the small town of Bude, the hotel has huge windows and glass doors opening onto a large terrace with comfortable seating – the perfect place to eat, drink and watch waves.

WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
All 16 rooms are furnished beautifully and simply. The uncluttered décor, with clean lines and white cotton linen and towels, creates a light, calm atmosphere that’s not in the least Spartan.

ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
The entire hotel has a feeling of relaxed luxury. Towelling robes, plenty of complimentary toiletries and a fridge just big enough to chill your wine continue the pampering theme. Some of the rooms have big balconies; others boast Juliet balconies.

BEST SEA VIEW?
All the rooms along the front of the hotel have glorious views of the huge sandy beach and its spectacular surf. The sunsets can be pretty impressive too.

HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
My dinner of stuffed chicken breast and fresh vegetables was delicious, as well as beautifully presented and promptly served by the charming staff. But it was breakfast that really stood out: fresh berries, yoghurt, cereals and the best free-range poached eggs I’ve ever had, along with smoked salmon, warm fluffy brioche and an elegant swirl of creamy hollandaise. A pot of fresh coffee completed this heavenly morning meal. (Locally-sourced bacon and sausages are also on the menu.)

WHAT WILL IT COST?
Prices start from £105 per night for a classic double room and breakfast for two. Suites start at £175. Check the website for price deals.
