Gabrielle Jaffe eats at La Reunion Restaurant, Cobo Bay, Guernsey

WHET MY APPETITE La Reunion Restaurant occupies an early 20th-century building that was formerly the Rockmount hotel. After the refurbishment – headed up by local Guernsey interior designer Michele Hilton – the space now features panoramic windows and a chic, striking décor with blown-glass lamps, Victorian-style floor tiles and neon chairs. An open kitchen lets you admire the work of the chefs who use their first-class culinary skills to extract the best out of the island’s rich local produce.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU? Their menu is constantly changing and seasonal. When coast visited, we tried Guernsey crab salad, local sea bass with hazelnuts and a lip-smacking dessert of salted peanut parfait. There are also vegetarian options, including a pink grapefruit endive salad.

HOW’S THE MOOD? The elegant setting and beautifully presented food make for fine dining, but with the friendly staff, there’s no hint of pretension. For a more informal meal, try the sister pub The Rockmount downstairs.

CAN I SEE THE SEA? You can’t miss it! Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, almost every seat has views over the aquamarine waters and sweeping sands of Cobo Bay. But the best vista is from the large terrace. Either way, the restaurant’s location on Guernsey’s west coast promises spectacular sunsets.

WHAT’S THE DAMAGE? The à la carte menu includes mains from £12.50. There is a lunch or early bird dinner set menu with two courses for £15, or three courses with coffee for £20.

OPENING TIMES Lunch is from 12-2.30pm Tuesday to Saturday and 12-3pm on Sunday. Dinner is from 6.30-9.30pm Tuesday to Saturday. La Reunion Restaurant, Cobo Coast Road, Guernsey GY5 7HB (lareunion.gg).
