Every room in THE PIG-in the Wall is different, styled with original beams, reclaimed materials, vintage finds and comfy beds to sink into after a day of exploring.
The smallest PIG in the litter and the only PIG in a city, this boutique hideaway has 12 rooms and is tucked into the old medieval walls. Downstairs, the deli bar serves a daily-changing menu featuring produce from the kitchen garden at THE PIG collection’s original hotel in the New Forest – think salads, pies, quiches and sharing boards. Here you can enjoy a sunny meal on the terrace or simply grab a coffee and watch the world go by (thepighotel.com).
Southampton offers historic streets, a strong food and cultural scene, lively nightlife and is easily explored on foot. Don’t miss the SeaCity Museum, which tells the story of the Titanic and its lasting impact on the city, or Tudor House & Garden, offering a glimpse into 800 years of the city’s history.

The free-to-enter Southampton City Art Gallery, which reopened earlier this year after a multimillion-pound transformation, is another must-visit. Housed in a stunning Grade II* listed Art Deco building, its works span eight centuries of European art from the Renaissance to the present, with an equally impressive 20th-century British and contemporary art portfolio.
At the arts and heritage venue, God’s House Tower, built into the medieval walls, visitors can browse the permanent exhibition Stories Behind the Stones, which uncovers the building’s past from medieval fort to prison and archaeological museum through immersive displays and rooftop views. Retail lovers are also spoilt for choice at Westquay, one of the South’s biggest shopping destinations.
Southampton’s independent restaurant scene also punches well above its weight. Plus, there’s also a rich nightlife to explore, from cocktail bars, bars that specialise in craft beers and a great selection of pubs. And, the city has a thriving live music scene with gigs galore, DJ nights, dance and comedy at a host of independent venues (visitsouthampton.co.uk).
