Welcoming and friendly, staying at this beautiful Georgian house is as relaxed as staying with a best friend (who has really great taste).

Words: Alex Fisher

Food is home cooked in the open kitchen and dining room, guests are invited to mingle at pre-dinner drinks in the drawing room on a Friday and Saturday evening and if you visit when supper club is running, you will have the opportunity to meet local people who love good food and the surrounding coast. If you want the personal touch, this is the place for you.

ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?

The entire house exudes laid-back luxury, with elegant furniture sitting alongside modern art, but the garden spa, with hot tub and sauna in it’s own private setting, is delightful.

WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?

Stylish and fresh, handmade oak beds with crisp linen and luxurious bathrooms with rainforest showers and baths with room for two.

BEST SEA VIEW?

You can see the sea from most of the rooms. It’s only a few hundred metres to the harbour, where you will find Penzance’s famous Art Deco lido, Jubilee Pool.

HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?

Good food is at the heart of a stay at Chapel House. Drawing on the wealth of local food producers in west Cornwall, they offer delicious breakfasts cooked to order in the downstairs kitchen and dining area. On a Sunday, you can enjoy brunch from 10 am, where, as well as the breakfast stables, regular specials are added such as kedgeree,  bubble and squeak and home-made flatbreads with dahl and spinach. On Fridays and Saturdays you can join other guests and locals for a kitchen supper, with drinks from 6.30pm and supper at 8pm, alternatively if you visit when a supper club is running, book in advance for a three-course meal costing just £30 a head.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Rooms are from £200 per night, suites are from £300 per night. Unusually for some establishments, they do accept single night bookings.
