Those yearning for a coastal camping break with added style take note – we’ve picked our favourite glampsites by the sea with help from Cool Camping’s brand new book Glamping Getaways

POLGREEN GLAMPING Cornwall

Six miles north of Newquay, this sloping meadow, sheltered by mature woodland, is home to six fully furnished bell tents through the school summer holidays. Each located in their own private plot, the tents sleep up to five people in comfort, with two communal dining tents providing further living space. Eco-friendly shower and toilet facilities are located across a tiny brook that runs out to nearby Mawgan Porth Beach- one of North Cornwall’s quieter sands with excellent rock pools and caves along its edges. The South West Coast path and the UK’s most revered surf spots are also within easy reach. Bell tents available from £494 per week for two people.

LOVELAND FARM Devon

Fashion designer duo, Jeff and Karina Griffin, have brought a chic, modern style to this 19th century farm on the Hartland Heritage Coast. Five geodesic domes loom large within the six-acre camping space, ranging in size and price and featuring king-sized beds, wood-burning stoves and all mod cons including Wi-Fi and a movie projector. Bright and spacious, they are accompanied by a separate kitchen space and luxury bathroom cabin. It’s little more than a mile to the nearest beach (where you can join the South West Coast Path) and a 15-minute drive to historic Clovelly harbour. Two-night dome stays available from £230 for two people.

DEEPDALE BACKPACKERS & CAMPERS Norfolk

Six tipis, four yurts and a shepherd’s hut populate this converted farm space just yards from North Norfolk’s coastal path. The yurts and shepherd’s hut are particularly luxurious- with double beds and wood-burners- while tipis are more minimally furnished, though all have access to a well-equipped communal kitchen. Continue east along the footpath and Brancaster Staithe’s dinghy-dotted harbour is just a mile away or stop en route at the White Horse pub for some of the best marshland views in North Norfolk. Turn west for an excellent one-hour walk to the expansive dunes, sands and pine forest of renowned Holkham Bay. Tipis (sleep 6) available from £40 per night, yurts (sleep 4) available from £50 per night and shepherd’s hut (sleeps 4) available from £50 per night.

CWTCH WOODLAND CAMP Pembrokeshire

Three insulated, wooden cabins ‘cwtches’ are situated among the spruce trees of this streamside site. Within walking distance of the picturesque Daugleddau Estuary, the three-acre patch is entirely off-grid yet still boasts toilets, a shower and a well-equipped communal kitchen. Inbuilt beds, woollen rugs and bedding provide comfort, while campfires are allowed with outdoor cooking facilities provided. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is a well-known local highlight, but there are plenty of other excellent trails nearby, in particular the Lansker Borderlands route along the riverside. The famous beaches of St. Brides Bay are an easy 20 minute drive away. Cwtches available from £90 per night for two people.

DRY ISLAND Ross-shire

Sheltered in Badchro Bay on Scotland’s wind-blown west coast, tiny Dry Island can only be reached via a 50-meter long footbridge, which leads you across to a couple of wooden cabins. Thoroughly comfortable, though not especially luxurious, the larger sleeps a family of four in a double bed and bunks, while the smaller is ideal for couples and even has access to its own private pebble beach. Dolphins, porpoises, seals and otters all frequent the bay and a local creel fisherman offers ‘shellfish safaris’ departing from the mainland. For the most far-reaching sea views, head back inland and hike the dramatic Torridon Mountains. Cabins available from £50 per night for two people.

All of the glamping options above can be booked at coolcamping.co.uk and feature in Cool Camping’s new Glamping Getaways book (2nd Edition, Punk Publishing, £16.95).
