Alex Fisher visits this stylish Suffolk hotel

WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
The recent refurbishment of this boutique hotel – with its combination of nautical, traditional elements and vibrant, modern colours created by award-winning designers Project Orange – is a delight. Splashes of fuchsia and emerald green give the 17th-century building a contemporary feel, while many original features are also retained. Owned by Adnams Brewery since 1872, the company has pulled out all the stops to ensure that The Swan, which sits next door to the brewery, is a beacon of great design and hospitality.

ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
We loved the concierge! He knew everything about the lovely town of Southwold. The staff were all superb. There are complimentary 20cl bottles of Adnams gin and Temple Spa toiletries in all rooms, along with fluffy bathrobes and free WIFI.

WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
There are 35 rooms spread across the main building and garden, all of which have been revamped to the same high standard. There are four-poster beds in the main building and a specifically designed accessible room.

BEST SEA VIEW?
You can’t see the sea, but long, sandy beaches are just a five-minute stroll away.

HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
There are two restaurants. The Tap Room has a traditional pub feel, while serving the best coffee I’ve had anywhere. The Still Room offers fine dining in an elegant, but friendly, setting. Excellent food that befits the setting.

WHAT WILL IT COST?
From £200 per night including VAT, based on two sharing an Excellent room on a B&B basis.
