Alex Fisher writes about her stay at Budock Vean in Cornwall

WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
Budock Vean has always been known for its tranquil gardens that roll down to the Helford River, but now the hotel is undergoing a refurbishment and adding new holiday homes to its extensive estate.

ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
Complimentary toiletries, an onsite spa, indoor swimming pool and a great outdoor hot tub. Robes and slippers are provided in the rooms and the hotel has its own golf course.

WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
The newly refurbished ‘signature’ rooms are luxurious and chic, decorated with muted greys, silvers and pale blues, along with splashes of deep purple. Drawing on local makers, they have feature wallpaper, quirky cushions and soft, woollen throws.

BEST SEA VIEW?
You can’t see the sea, but the best views are over the 65 acres of stunning gardens and woodland.

HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
The hotel offers a great deal for those who book dinner, bed and breakfast as a package. The three-course evening meal is based on locally sourced meat, fish and cheeses, with a range of dishes available each night. Starters include pan-seared Falmouth Bay scallops, and for mains they offer Cornish venison and locally landed plaice. There’s an excellent cheese selection, often including Cornish Blue and Yarg, along with home-made quince jelly.

WHAT WILL IT COST?
A standard room starts at £73 per person, per night, including breakfast. A signature room starts at £96 per person, per night. Visit budockvean.co.uk to book.
