Alex Fisher eats at Lewinnick Lodge, Newquay, Cornwall

WHET MY APPETITE
Probably the best place to eat in Newquay – the floor-to-ceiling windows make the most of the stunning sea views from this restaurant’s elevated location. Sitting on a clifftop away from the hustle and bustle of the busy town centre, it’s the perfect spot to watch the sunset. Recent refurbishments have extended and improved the outdoor seating area and added stylish B&B rooms above the restaurant.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?
Excellent local produce. A simple bar menu is supplemented by a creative special’s menu. Superb fish dishes, which include a sublime starter of Amatari Gurnard, with cucumber salad, mint yoghurt and chilli chutney, or try grilled Cornish mackerel fillet served with Mediterranean vegetables. For mains go for local mussels in a perfect, classic white wine sauce, or catch of the day served with caper and parsley butter.

HOW’S THE MOOD?
Relaxed, friendly and welcoming. There’s a bar adjacent to the restaurant so there is a buzzy, laid-back ambience.

CAN I SEE THE SEA?
It’s hard to find better sea views than this. Watch dolphins in the sea below.

WHAT’S THE DAMAGE?
Starters and desserts cost from around £7 and mains begin at £12.
