Alex Fisher visits The Ivy in Brighton

WHET MY APPETITE
Probably the most colourful, recent addition to the Brighton foodie scene, no expense has been spared on the décor at The Ivy. Gorgeous orange and emerald velvet seating awaits you here, and the bar is literally dazzling. This is a super fun place for a night out. Have a cocktail, have a giggle and admire the huge squid painted on the ceiling. Oh, and the Art Deco-influenced ladies rest-rooms are delightful.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?
The extensive menu includes Atlantic sea scallops with pea purée and lobster with garlic and parsley butter. There are plenty of options for vegetarians, such as chargrilled halloumi with Padron peppers and baked quinoa and chickpeas. Desserts range from a melting chocolate bombe to baked apple tart with Calvados flambé.

HOW’S THE MOOD?
Fun! This is a great place for a birthday celebration or a girls’ evening out. The service is excellent and the décor flamboyant. Enjoy a drink at the bar while you admire the artwork covering the walls.

CAN I SEE THE SEA?
No, but Brighton’s pebbled beach is just a five-minute stroll away.

WHAT’S THE DAMAGE?
Starters begin at £5.50 and mains are from £12.50 rising to £34 for a whole grilled lobster.
