Watergate Bay Hotel, on the north coast of Cornwall, is the destination for a contemporary beach holiday

Sponsored by Watergate Bay Hotel…

With an emphasis on the balance in life – getting among the elements, eating and drinking well, chilling out and getting cosy – it’s a place that gives you the best of both worlds. Get active, and then relax (without worrying about the sand you tracked up the stairs on the way in). Think of a ski resort on the beach.

Watergate Bay is set on a two-mile stretch of sand, and its big, open spaces with floor-to-ceiling windows make no secret of that. Guests can while away afternoons on The Living Space terrace over the sea, or watch the waves from the heated pool in Swim Club.

FOOD AND DRINK
There’s no shortage of dinner options at Watergate Bay. The hotel itself has three places to choose from, and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall is within arm’s reach.

Zacry’s is the restaurant within the hotel. With bold, interesting ingredients making up its ever-changing, seasonal menu, it’s a far cry from the normal hotel restaurant. This is also where you sit down to breakfast with create-your-own waffles.

The Beach Hut is a great place to hang out and watch the world go by. It’s one of the country’s closest restaurants to the beach, so you can walk off the sand, straight to your table. Follow the menu through Mexican, Asian, Italian and back to contemporary British: fresh, local fish and beef burgers. Don’t mention the Extreme Hot Chocolate unless you mean business.

As much a lounge as it is a fresh, contemporary bar, The Living Space is one of the centrepieces of the hotel. Stake out your own corner and set to work on a sharing longboard, the LSFC (Living Space fried chicken) or some Portobello mushroom chips. The bar itself has a staggering selection, especially if you’re a gin lover.

Taste of the Bay is a seasonal, mid-week break with dinner included. Stay for three-nights, with breakfast included, and eat at Zacry’s, The Beach Hut and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall.

RELAX
Tucked away in the hotel, Swim Club is Watergate Bay’s answer to a spa. The infinity pool, outdoor hot tub, treatment rooms and guest lounge-come-coffee-bar, The Ocean Room, all have clear views over the Atlantic.

GET ACTIVE
With two miles of sand and consistent conditions, Watergate Bay is one of the best surfing beaches in the country and a prime destination for surfers of all levels.

In Extreme Academy, Watergate Bay Hotel has its own surf and active sports school. Surf lessons are just the start. Experienced, fully qualified coaches are on hand with equipment hire and lessons across surf, stand-up paddleboard, bodyboarding, handplaning, kitesurfing, traction kiting and waveski.

The hotel also regularly runs yoga, surfing, coastal fitness and swimming courses. Stay for a number of nights one of their Active Breaks and take on a new sport.

FAMILIES
Watergate Bay Hotel is a breath of fresh air for families. Contemporary comfort doesn’t outweigh practicality. Provisions are made for activities and childcare in Kids Zone. Carefully planned activities and dinner reservations mean parents can find time for themselves, whilst still spending time as a family.

We are dog friendly too. There are a number of dog-friendly bedrooms, and good dogs are always welcome in the Living Space and The Beach Hut.

EVENTS
The two-mile beach hosts a variety of events year round including nation surf competitions, food, drink and music events.

STAY
More than anything, Watergate Bay Hotel is a place where nature rules. The beach, the sea and the rugged coastline are all features of your stay. Whether it’s wintertime sunsets, balmy beach days or dolphin appearances, the elements command your attention throughout the seasons.

But inside, every part of the hotel – from the bedrooms to Swim Club – has been created to bring you the best in contemporary Cornish comfort.
