Content editor Madeleine Barber visits The White Lion Hotel in Aldeburgh, Suffolk

WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
Sitting just a short hop over the road from shingle-lined shores and wooden fishermen’s huts, The White Lion oozes coastal appeal. Waking up to the sound of waves and smells of the sea give inland visitors a taste of seaside living.

ANY LUXURIOUS TOUCHES?
With soft white robes, locally produced artisan chocolates on arrival and majestic décor, the rooms offer luxury aplenty. The hotel cocktail menu adds an extravagant touch to any meal, too.

WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
Crisp linen and fluffy pillows make for a comfortable night’s sleep, while velvet chairs and a footrest provide welcome relaxation. Rooms at the front of the hotel offer sweeping sea views.

BEST SEA VIEW?
Rivalling the idyllic vistas from sea-view rooms are the dining room and lounge. Enjoy a romantic meal or get lost in a novel, taking regular breaks to peer up at the crashing waves.

HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
Try not to fall into the ‘eyes-bigger-than…’ trap at breakfast, where the all-you-can-eat menu offers everything from a full English, eggs Benedict and maple syrup-drizzled pancakes to toast, cereals and pastries. The evening menu is dotted with the freshest locally sourced fish: we tried the catch of the day – a succulent skate wing doused in prawn butter – and hake fillet accompanied by seasonal vegetables and pea purée.

WHAT WILL IT COST?
Prices for a sea view double start from £111 per night, including breakfast. To book, visit whitelion.co.uk
