We get the lowdown on the Driftwood hotel in Bexhill-on-Sea in East Sussex from Coast editor Alex Fisher

WHAT’S THE BUZZ?
Hospitality guru Seng Loy is determined to put Bexhill-on-Sea back on the map as a stylish coastal destination. Having established the highly successful Hastings House in St. Leonards on Sea, he’s spread his wings and opened Driftwood, a chic, boutique hotel and restaurant just walking distance from the stunning De La Warr Pavilion. The town has benefited from an extensive revamp of the coastal gardens along the promenade, and the transformation of this empty, three-storey Victorian building will add to the town’s up and coming status.

WHAT ARE THE ROOMS LIKE?
There are six cool bedrooms, which have a contemporary take on mid-century design, with architectural features including oak cladding, exposed brickwork and traditional wall panelling in quirky heritage colours.

BEST SEA VIEW?
You can’t see the sea from the hotel, but the beach is only a few minutes’ walk down the road.

HOW ABOUT THE FOOD?
The restaurant is superb, with Austrian head chef Michael Roessi creating a unique menu influenced by traditional fare from his homeland. Think perfect strudel, goulash, pumpkin soup and Rindfleischsulz, a traditional beef and root vegetable terrine.
