Alex Fisher visits Zacry’s at the Watergate Bay Hotel in Cornwall…

WHET MY APPETITE
A triumph for executive chef Neil Haydock, Zacry’s opened in Watergate Bay Hotel to much acclaim. Named after a nearby outcrop of rock that overlooks the ocean, it combines seasonal and local food with international inspiration, from classic French brasserie to contemporary American cuisine. The indoor charcoal grill is a perfect way to cook great local lobster, squid and steak.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?
It changes with the seasons, but starters include southern fried rabbit with chipotle ketchup or crispy rock shrimps with white truffle oil. For mains Zacry’s offers plancha-cooked Cornish hake, shellfish succotash and aioli, or grilled BBQ venison with kale and shimeji mushrooms.

HOW’S THE MOOD?
Super-stylish interior, with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Great service and highly knowledgeable staff who really know the menu. It’s very child-friendly from 6.30-7.30pm, then has a more sophisticated vibe later, when children need to be over eight years old to dine.

CAN I SEE THE SEA?
The stunning sandy surfing beach, Watergate Bay, is just yards from Zacry’s. You can see the sea from some tables.

WHAT’S THE DAMAGE?
The simple pricing system, two courses for £34 and three for £400 makes it easy to plan your evening out. It doesn’t have a specific children’s menu, but does serve children’s portions at a reduced cost.

OPENING TIMES
Open for dinner seven days a week from 6.30-9.30pm.
